The Five Promises of Reclaiming Myself

Dear Nina,

I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished this year; from facing your fears and sharing your story to starting therapy and unpacking all that’s going on in your head. The more time goes on, the more you’re growing into the woman that shatters stereotypes and demolishes stigma and that makes you amazing.

From now on here are five promises to make to yourself:
1. Honor yourself and your mental health by setting clear boundaries and never settling for less.
2. Put yourself first because you matter, too.
3. Have some fun, however that looks for you, and be easy on yourself.
4. Take breaks because you deserve to feel energized and ready to take on those big projects you love.
5. Reminding yourself daily that you are enough and DO NOT NEED anyone to validate that FACT.

There’s so much in store for you so stop questioning your worth and value because of how others treat you. Learn to love yourself REGARDLESS. You are a shining light and I hope you learn to believe that.This is the year of reclaiming self.

Introduction: 8-Day Reflection Card Series Day 1

For the next 8-days, I will be sharing prompts in my Reflection Card series. Each day will feature one card with a two-part fill-in statement of reflection: the first part being your name and second a reflection/confession.

Approaching the fill-ins are your choice. What you feel you need to reflect and come to terms with, you can place in the blanks. Whether you want to reflect on your mental health, past, present, or goals will guide your responses.


The first card is on struggles. What do you struggle with professionally, emotionally, personally, or spiritually? What do you want to improve?

Be open and honest with yourself about what you struggle with. Coming to terms with your struggles can be tough, but it can also open the door for self-awareness and moving forward.

Be gentle with yourself and your realizations.


My Reflection:

As an adult, coming to terms with my struggles is difficult. For this card, I will confess to struggling to let go and forgive others. Although for some, not being able to forgive or let go affects how they interact with others, for me, it’s the opposite, I blame myself. Ever heard the phrase “Hurt people, hurt people,” for me it’s “hurt people hurt/blame themselves.”

Next steps:

Moving forward in realizing I blame myself for the people that hurt me leaving it hard to forgive, I will work toward healing those wounds within myself. I will be content with not getting an apology and forgiving myself for carrying those burdens.

I will move forward with peace.

I will begin to let the pain go. Let it disappear. I will not carry this around anymore.

Mental Health Hack: Be on a Continuous Journey to Higher Consciousness

Build a relationship with yourself and those around you. Continue on to a journey of awareness and acceptance. Build perspective and allow yourself the privilege of the present moment. Move on in patience.

Construct a perception that shapes a higher consciousness. How you think and respond impacts your reality. Create calmness and boundaries prioritizing yourself in self-care.

Learn to love yourself, build empathy, and be grateful.

Open your mind, reflect on your experiences, and feel.

Be gentle with yourself and your journey. Absorb what you need from life lessons but also filter out what no longer serves you.

Give yourself permission to move forward without regret and guilt.

Be open to change and to receiving help.

Build community.

Forgive yourself.

Allow self-love to guide your decisions. Grow in yourself. Get to know who you are. Accept that you live on purpose; that you have a purpose. Open your eyes to something different then you’re used to, something better.

Become uncomfortable staying in the same place/situation. Move. Change. Shift.

Strive for something higher, something soul-satisfying.

Rise up.

Affirmation of Love

I accept that even though life may bring rejection, love will remain present and flowing into my life.

Despite the pain that may arise from wounds of abandonment, love remains present in my life.

As I grow into an adult and I grow in self-awareness, love will become more apparent.

The more I grow into who I am, self-love will also bloom as I do.

No matter the circumstance, I will always remember to affirm and acknowledge that love will always be present; both inside and outside of myself.

Bulletin: Protect Your Energy

What is it To Protect Yourself

Whether you are highly sensitive, vulnerable to energies, have a high sense of intuition, or are big on healing/helping others it is especially important to be grounded in your independence, boundaries, and sense of self. While it’s easy to believe you have the ability to change or alter how someone thinks or approaches life, it is not true that you can help/fix everyone you come in contact with.

There are times where your kindness will be taken for weakness making you susceptible to getting hurt by someone who does not have your best interest at heart. In order to become clear of your stance in any relationship without being manipulated, make sure to set clear and solid boundaries (and stick to them), know and become comfortable with yourself (whether its what you like, dislike, or are uncomfortable with), and be smart about your comfort level. While we pride ourselves in being open books, sometimes it takes getting to know someone before exposing real information about ourselves. Being patient will play a huge role in this process.

How to Put Yourself First

Growth, self-improvement, peace, and patience can motivate you to protect yourself and your mental stability. You and your energy are important.

Practice self-care, self-awareness, compassion, empathy, and critical thinking in order to build a higher sense of self and safety. Take the time out to understand what is happening in a situation before immersing your entire self in it. Your body and intuition will tell you when something is not right. Listen to it. We might get excited about what something could be instead of what it actually is and before we know it we are not where we thought we would be.

Love yourself enough to take your time, talk things through, and say no when necessary. You are responsible for yourself and what you allow. What are your standards?

Next Steps and Questions

As you come in contact with new people ask yourself critical questions in order to get a firm footing in what you actually want out of that interaction. We may like to think of ourselves as void of wanting something specific, but we must ask ourselves what is our motive. We may be in difficult spots in our lives and before we take care of ourselves we take pride in taking care of others. We tend to look for things to fix instead of looking inward for healing.

Where are we in our lives? Do we need a break? How am I feeling? What do I want? How am I coming off to others? Am I practicing self-care?

Become self-aware in yourself and in turn you can protect yourself and your sensitivities.

Bulletin Challenge: What Do You See When You Look at Yourself?

When I look at myself, this is what I see. I see someone who is able, but troubled, someone who loves, who cares, a fighter, a creator, a writer, an empath. When I see myself, I see someone who is many things. I see someone who has the power to be someone. I see change. I see struggle. I see growth.

Look at yourself. What do you see?

Make sure to look at all parts of you. All the parts that make you someone.

Sometimes we look at ourselves and we don’t know what we see. We don’t know who we are.

Look at yourself and tell me what you see.

You are a beautiful multifaceted masterpiece. It’s not enough to look at our pain and let it define all of who we are. We have to break ourselves apart to get to every piece of jewel.

We have so much in us that we toss to the side. We must dig deep to find our drive and our will to continuously know who we are.

Let’s find our light together.

Heal with me.

Comment below what you see when you look at yourself. Focus on everything (not just the good or the bad, but remember to be gentle with yourself). And as we begin to see, we begin to reflect and to grow in our self-acceptance.

SWT 100 Notes Note 28: Making Decisions while Having High Functioning Anxiety

Before I developed anxiety, I would push myself to my limit. My perfectionism didn’t allow me to do anything but my best, and because of that I never looked at myself or my health before making decisions. In my days after college living with anxiety, making decisions about everything has to be thought out with my health first changing my approach on life entirely.

I’ve been in the most uncomfortable situations because I have to explain to people that I can’t. I’ve never known myself to not do something because of my mental health, but the past 2 years have been both humiliating and embarrassing. I have to measure stress levels in environments, decide what’s best for me based on whether I would get overwhelmed or not and it’s not been easy what’s so ever.

I’ve learned, however, that because of my anxiety I’m the most important person in my life. If I want to heal, I have to put myself first no matter who judges me and thinks that I’m weak, overexagerating, or believes what I’m going through is not real. Although I’ve cried having this realization many times in the past year, I can say that I refuse to have another panic attack another day in my life. I will not backtrack my healing to make money or satisfy anyone’s inability to see the realness in my struggle.

I’m my first priority and I will find peace in my mental chaos. I will surround myself with things that are good and not allow anyone to tell me that I’m crazy.

I love myself and will continue with my healing in ways that I know best. The only person who can tell me how to heal me is me. I will heal by understanding and knowing myself.

My healing will progress by me having a voice about my well-being.

Bulletin Board July 2017: Love

                              Love

Love is complex and love is diverse.  Love is individual and love is multifaceted.  One must love oneself and love another. Love does not need reasons to exist.  Love is accepting, it is patient, and it is unconditional.

Love is not like other emotions. Love is active. Love is a process and love progresses. Love takes time. Once love is reached, however, it must be maintained with sacrifices and compromises because, if you haven’t noticed, we are trying to love people of different lives, cultures, lifestyles, pet peeves, and experiences (when building relationships). We are trying to build love and acceptance. Love cannot just be left alone or forgotten. Once love is built than taking it down causes major psychological issues. Love goes all in. But love also gets tired. Love must be mutual.

Love for oneself is as important as loving someone else. You are the most important part of your life. Loving yourself is extremely essential to your growth, prosperity, and progress. Knowing that without you there is no life to live is what makes love so pivotal. Its not selfish to put your own well being first, its necessary.

Continue in love. Progress in love. Understand in love. Love is needed. Continue to love.

SWT 100 Notes: Note 7

This is me. This is who I am. Understanding weak point and strong points in yourself. Realizing the type of person you are, the things you tend to do in specific circumstances, things you hate, people/places/phrases that motivate you, people/places/phrases that make you angry/bitter are a part of self-realizing. Once you see who you are then the process of healing will be that much clearer. To see, to realize, to notice, to understand calms your tension and helps to realize why things are the way they are. After you self-realize, and after you heal, the way you move, think, respond, and approach life will then also be changed and improved.

Discussing self-care and appreciation can span to various topics and subjects and changes based on the needs of those individuals, but an overarching theme when it comes to self-care and appreciation is its importance. Always know that self-care should come first.  Know yourself, know your strengths, and especially know your weaknesses. Know what you need to work on and know when you deserve a break. Take care of yourself physically and mentally since they both work together in your overall well being. Make sure to love and be kind to yourself.  Know your limits and know when something isn’t for you. Don’t panic! Slow your lifestyle down and appreciate yourself enough to know who you are and what you want for yourself.
