#CheckInWithMe If You’re Chasing Perfection

Mighty Newsletter Reflection

“Ever since I can remember, I’ve struggled with perfectionism and negative self-talk. From the daily “I have to finish everything on my to-do list or else I’m unsuccessful today” to the weekly feeling of fear that I’m not putting in enough effort toward my goals — this constant spiral of always having to do more is exhausting. And because perfectionism has me constantly in a “doing trance,” I haven’t felt accomplished or proud of any of my wonderful achievements in a long time.

However, in my efforts to get rid of the dictator that is perfectionism, I recently crafted some stars to put on the walls of my bedroom. These stars mean more to me than just colorful construction paper in the shape of an astronomical object.

Every day when I look at my stars, I am reminded that I’m successful and have achieved so much to get to this very moment. My success is not measured by how much I’ve done but simply by who I am and the strength I give each day. Simply waking up is enough reason to look up at my stars stamping that day as an achievement.

Here are 3 possible ways you could celebrate your own accomplishments:

– Share your achievements with a family member or friend and do a fun activity with them
– Write a list of the wins that make you proud, put it on your refrigerator and pass it often
– Take a mental health day where you reward yourself with all of your favorites, like a TV show or movie, a great read or a meal comprised of your fave snacks.

Takeaway: Your worth is so much more than what you do each day it’s naturally ingrained in who you are. It can never be taken away.

Note: You can find the stickers on my stars here in my Etsy shop!

Dear Depression

With every breath in me and all of my energy, I push past the parts of myself that tell me I can’t.
Even on the mornings I ask “why?” I embody the character of resiliency.
“I am” despite the thoughts that say “I’m not.”
I define every day with what living means.
I draw it in cursive along the walls of my subconscious.
I deserve peace and I manifest it in every moment.
Although I need time to get my pain together, my strength always takes the lead.
What I have is the power those thoughts try to take from me.
But, even when I feel I’m at my lowest when the fear feels bigger than the triumph,
I get up.
I get up. Every. Single. Time.
Why? Because “I am.”

A Writing Splurge: Let It Out Note 38

When I’m not doing well or if I can’t seem to silence my intrusive thoughts, I write. So, here is me writing right now:

I know you believe no one will want you. You fear being alone. You can’t imagine being loved or appreciated. You don’t see anything but rejection so you’ve given up.

I know you can’t sleep, so you go to bed at like 3. Some tears roll down your face but no one sees.

I know you’re trying to hide in isolation. That’s how you deal with things.

All this is silly, right? You’ll be fine. What you’re sad about is not important, it’ll happen…eventually.

Just focus on you.

Focus on you.

On you.

You.

Me.

Me.

Me and my.

Me and my feelings.

Me and my feelings are valid.

This is how I feel and it’s been spiraling for a while.

I don’t need anyone to want me. This is me, me and now.

I’ve been hurting a lot and keeping it to myself. When I open up, I feel as though what hurts me isn’t important enough.

To be lonely and isolated, to not feel hope, love, or purpose.

That right there is the wound that needs mending.

I must love myself to move past this pain that comes from way back when.

I am important.

I don’t need validation.

I embody my purpose.

I am powerful.

I am worthy.

Love flows freely in my life.

So I know.

I know.

I just needed a moment to let all this out…again.

Rite in the Rain: The Waiting Game

Mind is flooded with questions. Ones that I can’t answer. The type that is out of my control. It’s like…how come I haven’t seen any rainbows? Maybe some miracles?
Love?
No?

Just for maybe five seconds, some flowers to represent the “well done.”

I guess I’m just emotionally exhausted.

Adulthood draining me and my subconscious.

A constant cycle of letting myself out to dry after endless tears feel like a thunderstorm.

I’m drenched with the “Whys” and “if.”

In my stomach the lightning of not feeling good enough.
I feel it strike all the way to my chest. Not killing me though but maybe it should.

…Perhaps one day, when I’m not looking, peace will knock at my doorstep ready to move in with me.
The sky will be clear.
The rain passed away.
All simply because I deserve it.
I deserve to be loved.
I deserve to feel peace.
I deserve the bouquet of flowers ready for me.
All because I deserve to be happy too.
…Until then I wait as I sit in the rain.

To the Ones Struggling Silently

Even to the ones who hold the title of different, who struggle silently.

To the ones who push positively.

To the ones that show bravery although unaccepted.

The ones who feel unwanted.

The ones that cry alone at night.

The ones who struggle to keep up.

The ones who wish they were seen.

The ones who weren’t anyone’s favorite.

The ones who hustled to get what they needed.

The ones overcoming constantly.

The ones never in the spotlight.

The ones who don’t get acknowledged or thanked.

You are seen, you are important, you are valuable all on your own.

Your life holds purpose and all you do will reap its benefits.

***Because I’ve been struggling to see my worth and value, I write this piece as encouragement to all who feel like I do.

Here’s to…

There are moments where I sit and write and whatever flows out becomes something of its own. I want to make a toast to everything that’s been good to me, that’s shown me who I am even in conflict and discomfort. This is me. A work in progress, a never-ending process.

Continuously work on yourself even if the reality is uncomfortable….
